Andy Robertson, Depot Supervisor at SRL Traffic Systems
Over the last year and a bit, I’ve been taking on an Express Delivery Operative Apprenticeship and last week I was presented with a award for passing with distinction.
First off I’d like to thank Ruan McCutcheon and Stephen Daly for giving me the opportunity to take this course on, and for giving me all the time needed to ensure I passed with the merit I got.
I’d also like to thank Steve Wright for being the person who got me through this course. Foxy’s fantastic training methods and attention to detail, as well as always being available for a call when he wasn’t in the area to help with any questions, I had benefited me so much I was able to pass this course.

Harry Milsom from HW Martin
At the beginning of the Apprenticeship, I felt there were some things I needed to learn before being ready to drive HGVs. I was pleased that my company were willing to invest in me. I was informed that the apprenticeship would take about a year to complete and gain my class C (formerly class 2) licence, this was a timescale that worked really well for me.
I was fully prepared by the time I took my test, and a lot of credit goes to the quality of support and help of John. John was there to help and guide me with any questions or concerns I had along the way, made me feel comfortable and relaxed about everything leading up to the completion of my licence and apprenticeship. Thank you very much for all your help along the way, can’t fault you!

Mitchall Day
Mitchall is the most flexible individual I have had the privilege to tutor, no matter what time I suggest in the lead up to following months sessions he always makes himself available and is always on time, every time. He is always ready to start our sessions being the first out of the 3 learners at Mill Place to arrive first every session.
Mitchall is very mature and has taken his apprenticeship seriously and encouraged others at our group sessions. Mitchall has produced very high-end work throughout. Mitchall can be proud of himself for what he has achieved so far and I see a bright future for him in traffic management. Time2Train wish him the very best for the future.
Sam Cunningham. HW Martin, South Brent
Sam had a very slow start on his apprenticeship and fell behind by 7 to 8 booklets, he also suffered a huge loss to his family which contributed to him falling further behind. Sam and myself worked closely together, both in and out of working hours. At one point Sam, of his own violation, even visited me at home in South Wales to play catch up.
During my travels between South Wales (my home address), Newcastle, (our main office) and South Brent (Sam’s place of work), Sam would call me to update me on road closures and route diversions which assisted massively in getting to his depot on time every time.
Sam has now completed all his booklets and achieved a good pass on his Level 1 Functional Skills in English and maths. We have facilitated learning via face-to-face visits and carried out further learning over zoom and out of hours telephone calls.
As a person experienced in management and leadership, I can confidently say, that it is my belief, that Sam has a very bright future in Traffic Management and it would not surprise me if he gained a management role in the near future.
Norman Dando. HW Martin, Tormarton
Norman is a very reserved individual and at the start of his apprenticeship he lacked confidence and didn’t really engage very much during our sessions. He struggled with dyslexia and this knocked his confidence as he knew that he had to achieve a pass on his level 1 English and Maths. I saw Norman before starting our group sessions so that we could work together separately on his functional skills. Norman says this one to one support eased his worries.
Norman successfully passed his level 1 functional skills, much to his delight, something he never thought he could do. Norman said “This proves that if you put your mind to something and channel your thoughts that anything can be achieved if you approach the subject head on and ask for help when needed.”
Norman suffered a huge set back with a family bereavement halfway through his apprenticeship which meant his apprenticeship was put on the back burner. However, despite this set back, together we put a plan in place to free up extra work time to complete his programme. Norman’s hard work and self-belief have resulted in a pass across the board, this is my reason for choosing Norman as learner of the year at Tormarton.

Chris St George
“I work for SRL and I am based in Cambridge. I have just signed up a month ago for LGV and I am looking forward to beginning my qualification as my assessor has explained to me all the about the course, explained my first modules clearly and the other lads tell me he makes learning fun”.

Simon Hallam. HW Martin Blackwell
Simon is a polite yet accommodating individual and had no problem successfully completing his knowledge skills and behaviours for Using Technology where it states the need to remain flexible and adapt to change. Simon did just that on numerous occasions even through some difficult times of balancing his home/personal life, including childcare to accommodate my visits.
Simon attended each session with an open mind and engaged well throughout our sessions, he was always the first person to be seated ready to go. Simon did fall behind slightly on his knowledge booklets, but he soon caught up and is now 100% complete.
Simon lacked confidence at the very start of his apprenticeship due to the functional skills aspect of his learning but with hard work and plenty study achieved good scores on both his English and Maths level 1. He also passed his LGV Class C first time. I am very happy with Simon’s attitude towards his apprenticeship he took ownership and produced some very good work I wish him well for the future.
